The Web of Life book club will for the next while be showing an episode of this 6-part documentary series every second month, alternating with a book from our list. It will be a time when both groups come together.
In September we will be screening the first part of the ‘Hope’ documentary series made in association with the Transition Network.
Behind the climate crisis lies a unique opportunity to transform our future. Javier Peña, environmental divulgator, takes us on a journey across 17 countries, full of solutions that not only reduce emissions but also improve the quality of life for communities around the world.
Here follows a description of contributions made to this episode;
Paul Hawken / USA: Possibly the world’s most influential and inspiring voice on climate solutions. Founder of Project Drawdown and Regeneration.
Sweden/Germany: Johan Rockström, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), is a global leader in sustainability, known for his
work on planetary boundaries and his advocacy for urgent action against climate change.
Spain and China: The AlVelAl project, inspired by John D. Liu, promotes the regeneration of the Loess Plateau and the environmental, social and economic
restoration of more than one million hectares in Andalusia and Murcia.
Mexico: Cabo Pulmo, a small fishing community in Baja California Sur, has transitioned from intensive fishing to conservation of its coral reef.
USA: Greentown Labs (Leah Ellis) has developed a low-carbon cement using an electrochemical process without fossil fuels, reducing CO2 emissions by 90%.
Gael García Bernal (Mexico): Actor and activist focused on climate and ecological action. He has produced various climate-related content and is one of
the most recognised Latin American figures in global cinema.
Join us as we watch this first episode. Afterwards we can pause and share some refreshments whilst we have a conversation about all that we have watched together.
