The u3a is a nationwide organisation comprising independent local groups run voluntarily by their members and for their members.

Its name derives from its origins in France when it was originally connected with Universities, but this is no longer the case in the UK, although the name has never been changed to reflect this.

It is all about participation for pleasure, fun, learning or companionship, and everyone is encouraged to become involved in the groups and the activities.

Local groups are run by their members and for their members. u3a is all about participation for pleasure, fun, learning or companionship. We welcome everyone to become involved in the groups and the activities.

You can learn more about the u3a movement on the Third Age Trust website and about events for Scottish u3a members on the u3a in Scotland website.

Membership of the Cowal u3a is open to people from Dunoon and the surrounding area, including Kilmun, Strone, Ardentinny, Strachur, St Catherines, Cairndow, Colintraive and Tighnabruaich.

However, there are no geographical limits, and we currently have over 60 members with a series of monthly events and group meetings.

There is also no age limit, but our activities generally aim at retired or semi-retired people who wish to share in recreational, creative or learning activities or just for companionship.

Dining Out Group

The idea is a simple one – visiting an eating establishment, sampling their wares and having a great time with friends, old and new. Open to members of u3a, we meet when convenient.

Computing Support

This Group provides a service to Cowal U3A members, offering help by phone, email, local meetup, or home visit to those experiencing problems with their computer, tablet, or smartphone. Free to cowalu3a members – but donations to Cowalu3a for advice sessions are always welcome!
