Web of Life Book Club & Gaia Gathering Dunoon- Documentary Screening: ‘Hope’ – Episode 2 – The Power of Two Words

You are invited to watch the second episode of the ‘Hope’ documentary distributed by the Transition Network.

All change begins with two words: “What if…?” What if there were another way to produce our food that would allow us to better manage water and natural resources and reduce emissions? What if there were another way to design our cities, to heat and cool our homes…?

This episode is guided by:

Rob Hopkins (United Kingdom): Environmental activist and founder of the Transition Towns movement, which promotes the creation of sustainable and

resilient communities.

Solutions Presented Include:

Belgium: Liège promotes Ecological Food Belts (CATL), led by Christian Jonet, which promote sustainable food and short supply chains by supporting local

producers and raising community awareness.

Spain: Ernest Mas, a pioneer in regenerative agriculture and leader of Verdcamp Fruit in Tarragona, has replaced pesticides with flowers between crops

(intercropping), attracting beneficial insects, regenerating the soil and protecting pollinators.

Netherlands: Toby Kiers, the Jane Goodall of fungi, although she calls herself a soil astronaut. The fungal kingdom connects everything and captures more

carbon than any other system.

France: Carlos Moreno, creator of the term “the 15-minute city,” explains it to us from Paris: an urban planning concept that proposes that most of the needs and

services of citizens (such as work, shopping, education, health centres, and leisure) should be within walking or cycling distance of less than 15 minutes from

any point in the city.

United Kingdom: Jane Goodall is one of the most influential, impactful and socially accepted environmental voices of all time. A legend.

Netherlands: Maartje van Putten, pioneer of cycling infrastructure in Amsterdam, key to its transformation into a global benchmark for cycling mobility.

Belgium: Les Pousses Poussent is an urban agricultural project in Liège that grows organic vegetables, combining its agricultural activity with work in local

shops, promoting local and responsible production.
