The course: This is an online course which can be completed in your own time, sitting at home with a cup of tea. It doesn’t matter what date you choose when booking, we will send you the link to get started once payment is complete. Training materials will be sent to you via handbook or eBook whichever you choose whilst booking. An instructor will be available throughout the course via email or phone should you require any assistance.

Course details: The RYA VHF Radio Short Range Course (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels. It is also useful to know what to do if you ever require assistance.

What you will learn: The basics of radio operation, the correct frequencies (channels) to use, distress, emergency and medical assistance procedures, Digital Selective Calling (DSC) using simulators, Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and Search and Rescue (SART).

Cost: £90 (an additional £76 examination fee must be paid directly to the RYA prior to arranging your exam. Click here). You can choose to do the examination with us in person at the Holy Loch Marina.
