Colonel Mustard & the Dijon 5 are a genre defying Scottish alternative/comedy/dance/rock group based in Glasgow. Crowned best live act by the Scottish Alternative Music Awards and awarded the title of best international act by Pure M Magazine, these UK festival favourites are not to be missed. Their reputation as joyful, genre-hopping purveyors of music to move your feet to is well deserved. They’re unique tunes are big, warm, catchy and immediately uplifting.

Colonel John Thomas McMustard explains the band’s influences:

“We love so many different genres as a band so it is about pulling from different areas and trying to create our own melting pot. We try to make people who come along to see us feel part of the band – we want to make music that will get the crowd involved in whatever song it may be.”

Live, the band are famed for throwing some of the most outrageous parties in venues and festivals across the UK and beyond. They are firm favourites at a host of festivals including Eden, Breakout, Belladrum, Out East Fest and Lindisfarne.

Hugh Reed and the Velvet Underpants have toured with The Fall, Half Man Half Biscuit and have supported Mogwai, Simple Minds and ‘Belle and Sebastian’ and recently the Alabama 3. Now playing summer festivals – ButeFest, Doune the Rabbit Hole, Belladrum etc. Presently signed to the ‘Last Night From Glasgow’ label, a new album will come out in 2025.

Following local TV appearances his band The Velvet Underpants were invited by Deborah Harry of the band ‘Blondie’ to support her on 11 dates throughout Britain. This culminated in Hugh and Debs doing a live duet of Waiting for the Man, which can be watched on YouTube. Deborah also faxed Lou to tell him about Hugh.

The band’s two albums Take a Walk on the Clydeside was released receiving a lot of radio play not just in UK but also throughout, Europe, America and Canada.

Hugh describes himself as ‘multi talentless’ and is seen in a cameo role in the coolest film of the nineties Trainspotting – More recently he acted in the Jackie Chan movie ’12 Zodiacs’ as a butler and has also appeared many times on CCTV – Chinese TV in many acting roles, living for a time in Beijing, China.
