Our past is all around us – in the textures of landscape and in the material remains of the ancient past and the day before yesterday – informing understandings of who we are as individuals and communities. The information about monuments and landscapes that archaeological survey provides enriches the telling of Scotland’s stories. It helps ensure that the finite remains of the past are not lost to present and future generations in the face of unprecedented landscape modification driven by development, land management and climate change. This workshop aims to introduce you to the practice and roles of archaeological survey, site recognition and, by focusing on one small part of the woodland, begin to understand the places, sites and stories that are important to you.

This workshop forms part of our exploration the rich features and cultural heritage within your community woodland landscape via Archaeology Scotlands adopt a monument scheme.
